"Bridget Jones with a lot more wine! This story is hilarious, feel-good and relatable in all the best ways!" - Grace K @ HQ. She's just quit her high-flying job and her marriage is coasting on fumes. Can Alice find a sense of purpose in all the madness? ***** Alice's life isn't going to plan. She's tied to her phone, pointlessly managing PR for a sinking corporate megalith. She's become a bit player in her kids' lives and her marriage is coasting on fumes. Forcing herself into action with a rash resignation, Alice sets out to make a positive impact on the world around her. But how? Meditation leads to napping and her attempts to get closer to her teenage daughter result in the discovery of a secret that left her at loss of what to do! As the months tick by and a sense of purpose continues to elude her, Alice finds herself forming bonds with the most unlikely characters: the young woman who panhandles outside her old office; the homeless boy who sits cross-legged outside the liquor store with his ginger cat; her own dog walker who, it turns out, knows a thing or two about developing a good crema. Testing the limits of marriage, motherhood and the Toronto subway system--can Alice find her way into a purpose-driven life? Or will it all be one giant hangover? [*Wattpad Editor's Pick 2018*] [[word count: 70,000-80,000 words]] Readers say: "This had me laughing so loud that my sister came to check up on me to see if I'm OK!!!" "...the new Bridget Jones, a working woman's take on the digital age." About the Author: Working mother, annoying vegetarian and red wine enthusiast, Renee lives in Toronto with her flawed but wonderful family (seriously, who left socks on the kitchen counter?) in a flawed but wonderful house (what *is* that smell in the basement?).

Mature for adult content!! The world we live in is a beautiful, mysterious place. My home, my country, has been my world my entire life, living as the cursed princess of Iris is all I have ever know. Just as the only eyes I have known in the mirror were my own. And my hair was always white as snow. Iris has always been my home, its people my family. The kind smiles of villagers and the curious looks of children seeing me for the first time, the contrast of myself against the rest of my family in portraits. The whisper of the trees and the laughter of the flowers has always been what I lived by. "why are you so sad?" I rested my forehead on the cracked bark of the Soul Tree. My second home from the palace. The tallest tree in all the king's forest. Today it was deeply saddened, rumbling with a sort of bitter energy that leaks coldly into my bones. I wondered what it knew that I did not as I sat perched in its branches, it is not often that it's strong mass wavers. When it does it can only mean change is to come, nothing small. Something altering the kingdom itself. I sighed, my fingers brushing over its leathery leaves, it wouldn't be long until someone else noticed its unease, it will sicken the forest. By then it will be too late. ~~ Flora Duval, the cursed princess of Iris was always a quiet girl, working through her duties as princess and caring for the life in her country. Seeing beauty in the things most could not. Never has she expected an offer for marriage, not with her hair and her eyes the same pink of the Fenni flower. But then, she receives one. Less of a question for her hand and more of a demand, a demand caging her like a white rabbit in a deadly hunters trap. Trapped by the king of Taragon for her unusual features and the rumors of her life, Flora is stranded in a country she has never known, captured in cold castle walls without an ally in sight.

Gizmo, owner of her own shop Curiosities and Oddities, was everything and anything one wold expect of a woman of her time. Independant. Smart. A soon to be spinster. Bitter. Inventor. Mad scientist. Harlot. or so the rumors go. ~~ "Miss Gizmo!" I peered up from the latest addition to my shop, the two headed swine was an interesting find but oddly hard to sell, "Hello Mr Earnheart how's the leg?" The older man grinned broadly at me, "don't tell my wife dear girl but you are an angel sent from the lord himself." That I doubted severely. "not a single problem thanks to you, you really must stop by for dinner as a thanks sometime." I sighed, "ah but your ninny wife would be terribly convinced we were committing sin with one another." He laughed, despite the fact I had just called his wife a ninny, waving me off. "bollocks, you deserve a good home cooked meal and some company now and again." Did I now? "I see." "Yes, and my nephew is here in London for the time being, I am sure he would be delighted to meet you." Another old man trying to marry me into the family? I shook my head, "I assure you I am fine without such attentions Mr. Earnheart." He shook his head, "your seventeen now, two more years and you will start earning the title of spinster. I married my wife when she was fourteen." Marriage again, why does everyone insist upon talking marriage, its such a dreadfully boring topic, "I'm afraid I'm married to my work, unfortunately a woman cannot have two loves and thus one would end in divorce. I can honestly say my shop will not be my divorcée." He looked disappointed but knew me well enough to drop the subject, "oh and miss Gizmo?" "hmmm?" "My wife say's there is a rumor of man poking around the back alleys of London, shady one at that. Be careful when walking home?" I pulled my pistol from its hidden place amongst my clothes, "I'm one you need to worry about, I assure you."

Violett Blu always did her best to look on the bright side of things. It was something her mother had ingrained in her before being committed. She had vivid delusions, believing fairies were real. That they walked among us. Violett's mother went as far as to believe her father -long out of the picture- was of the fae. She insisted upon it, insisted he was powerful and beautiful and a vivid fantasy come to life. That he would visit her, appearing from nowhere just to dance with her in the light of fireflies. It was something Violett never believed but still loved to hear. Now, on nights when the hospital would allow, she would dance with her mother in her fathers place. Never thinking things would change, she would always dance barefoot in the grass, book of medicines in her arms as she studied natural ways to help her mothers mind in a way no medicines before ever could. ...until they did change. Until two boys appeared to her from nowhere. One proclaiming his everlasting love for her. And the other.... ~~ "Well. aren't you just a pretty little half breed. Don't listen to him. He's a liar when he says he loves you." I blinked at the dark haired man before me, wondering when it was he had arrived as I glanced at the tawny haired boy that had arrived a little earlier, "huh?" The dark haired one in all seriousness nodded, "at least I'm being honest when I say I genuinely just want to have sex with you. Its really not the unseelie way to declare love. Even if we truly do love you." "Uhm.." I blinked at the two as the glared at one another, "who exactly are you two?" The tawny one bowed lightly, "I am Hunter, prince of the seelie court." The dark haired one scoffed a bit, "I'm Phoenix."

But what happens when her gang, her own brother, betrays her for their own benefit, leaving her to their long time rivals?... A very bad girl gets a hell of a lot worse. ~~ "What the fuck did you just say to me?" "I said I wasn't surprised by your blatant teenage rebellion considering where you come from." I squinted up at the bastard. Vodka loving mother russia fucking bitch..."Yeah? Well at least I didn't name my gang after a line in Humpty-fucking-Dumpty." His eyes narrowed at me. Grinning dangerously I leaned a bit closer to Dimitri, "And all The Kings Men couldn't put the Russians balls back together again."

"I do not know what to tell you Mrs King. I have done as you asked. It is not my fault you dislike the results of your own decisions." The woman before me blinked rapidly, "My decisions? No I never decided any of this!" "...But you asked. What is known cannot be forgotten. It was your decision to peruse that lead to your pain." Abruptly she stood, her perfectly manicured fingers drumming on the tile counter, "no Delilah. I come to you because I need advice to give my husband to better our future. I pay you for that and that alone!" I sighed, "you do not. I am not here to tell you what you desire. I tell you what I see. I tell you what simply is and what will be." She started to pace, like some trapped animal. "I don't understand! because I found you we were saved from bankruptcy, you have never lead me astray and you have never told me something so terrible!" "Nothing so...terrible has shown itself to me before that concerns you." She shook her head, "tell me how to fix it!" "you cannot." "Now Delilah!" "You cannot. The boy will die." ~~ Delilah is a quiet girl, a seer who works for a wealthy woman by the name of Mrs. King. And then she tells her what no mother wants to hear. When the future isn't what Delilah is supposed to say. her life changes in a way not even she saw coming.

"They say that before you an I had ever existed there was a kingdom and within its borders a world of magic." "And what happened to this kingdom Mama?" The older woman hummed softly, braiding the childs hair with gentle fingers, "The kings and queens of the surrounding realms saw danger in this kingdoms residents, for you see, it was the only land where magic resided. Together the waged a war against the potential threat to protect their subjects. The war was long. But eventually the kingdom of magic was purged." The little girl peered up at her mother, wide eyed, "but what of the men and ladies who use magic today?" "There were few that were spared in that war. the magic users we see today are their decedents. They side with kingdoms as they see fit and aid us." She peered at her reflection in awe, "All of them?" At this her mother gave pause, "...no, not all. There is one who claims no alliance. She is an ally to no kingdom." The child wrinkled her nose in confusion, "so she helps everyone?" "No..this sorceress is not kind like the few you have met through your father. She wishes for nothing more than destruction." "why?" "No one knows my dear child. Nor do we wish to cross paths with her even if it means to discover why." "But..wouldn't it help to ask her?" "It is not that simple dear. one day you will understand." The child hummed a bit, "okay." The room plunged into silence. "Hey mama?" "Yes dear?" "What is that ladies name?" The mother shook her head slightly, "No one knows, not really. She is shrouded in darkness, her identity a mystery besides the rumors that float around her. But they call her Sin." The little girl cocked her head to the side, "and what did Sin do with her magic if she didn't help people with her power?" At this the mother blanched, "She became the greatest assassin that ever lived."

It's been five years now and I'm old enough to enter the square, eligible for the wizard. Although no one believes it will be me. I am the Fowler's daughter. not even borne to him by blood. An unknown girl found on the streets. And I am not beautiful like the girls of Lasireen. I am not one of the pretty girls they sing of in the town by the sea. I do not have to hope it will be the girl to the right or the left of me. Because I know. not even a blind man will pick me when faced with the girls of Lasireen. ~~ A/N See full description inside because wattpad is evil and i always go at least 150 characters above what I'm allowed >.<
