Timeline : Descendants Framed Descendants 2 Blamed When Mal returned to the Isle, she had her lizard mother in her pocket, and when returning, Maleficent remained. When a sudden wave of magical power surged through the Isle, it was enough to turn Maleficent human again, and able to contact her old allies. With her return, their confidence grew - and even when Maleficent was spotted and abducted from the Isle by Auradonian Guards - their plotting continues. Now, when the barrier of the Isle is burst open, enemies escape, and set out for revenge. Attention : this is a SEQUEL. The main storyline will make sense if you don't read 'Framed', but some small details that may or may not be later significant will be a bit more difficult to understand.

Around 6 months after the coronation of King Ben, Maleficent manages to escape her glass prison as well as return to her original size. However, it is believed that Maleficent was assisted in her disappearance and currently, all evidence points towards Mal. She has to put up with the constant pressure of being framed as well as fighting for her pride as all mischief breaks loose. Eventually, Mal cracks under the weight of the hate directed towards her and finds a way to leave everything behind - literally. Mal has successfully managed to keep away from Auradon, her friends and Ben. And it would've stayed that way, if Maleficent hadn't began attacking Auradon and tried to draw Mal out.
