They hail her as their 'Regienne Verust,' the Fairest Queen. She is simply bewitching to behold, or so they say, with her skin as pale as snow, her hair as dark as night, and her lips as red as blood. Or at least that's what they preach in the markets at midday. It's only under the cover of night that they whisper other things; stories of poison, murder, and a vault of palm-sized glass boxes, each with a preserved heart inside that rests upon cushions of hammered velvet. But Isoleí vun Déi Wäiss hasn't the time for their idle talk. Her sole interests lie in kingdoms and power, and crowns and revenge -- especially now that the war for her inheritance has begun. After a betrayal ten years ago, Isoleí has been biding her time, preparing herself for battle against the wicked despot that sits upon her stolen throne. The war she wages is her only chance to have the vengeance she desires and become the queen she was meant to be. Yet, victory is only half of the battle for her title. Enemies linger in the deep shadows of Wulfhaven Keep and confronting them means Isoleí must be willing to uncover just how far betrayal has spread in the kingdom of Fruaërt. Determining friend from foe will be a cruel test for her judgment but then again, Isoleí has always striven to be fair.

Twelve stories. One mangled timeline. The Amalgamates never should have existed. They have no fixed physical shape, though they prefer to present as human, and the powers they have far exceed the capabilities of any human. Below this appearance, though, lies the tedious balance between man and beast, playing out in all of them. With their history lurking behind them even as they run back to it, each one must decide who they are, what it means, and where they belong. Along the way, they run the risk of tearing themselves and their found family apart... WARNING FOR MATURE THEMES: Abusive relationships, suicidal characters and mentions of suicide (including some graphic scenes), violence, death, murder, and body horror. If you are easily unsettled by any of this it is recommended you not read this book.

Thank you to everyone who loved and read this story, but I'm leaving Wattpad as a writer for good. This story won't continue to be written, but feel free to enjoy what I had written of it. One day I plan to remake this story and others into a comic or a graphic novel, and when that happens I'll let you all know here. <3 ==== When Esme is a child, her mother--the queen of Flucht--dies mysteriously on the beach. The death is immediately blamed on sea serpents, ocean-dwelling cousins of dragons that are infamous for being violently unpredictable and attacking coastal cities. Esme takes to sleeping around as she gets older, hoping to fill the hole in her heart, but only ends up tearing it more. When she finds a serpent hatchling washed up on the beach and can't bring herself to kill it, Esme decides to raise it as an ally of Diella instead of an enemy. With the serpent she raises and a certain foreign prince with an odd choice in weaponry, she finds herself less empty than before. But as she learns more about the true nature of the sea serpents, old matters don't make as much sense as they used to, and Esme starts asking questions nobody else dared to. Why would a serpent attack a human unprovoked? Was her mother's death on the beach truly an accident, or was it murder? And what if she's next? ----- cover by @CarKann
