Highest Ranking: #1 in Humor [FEATURED, SEPT-OCT] An idealistic poet refuses to budge from the last parcel of land a developer needs to acquire in order to build a shopping mall. (Literary satire with pop culture references and environmental themes.) synopsis: The Myth of Wile E. is a riff on the modern obsession with fame and acclaim, as well as a mediation on the artist's place in the modern world, as seen through the eyes of a naive poet who is made simultaneously pathetic and heroic by the pursuit of a singular goal. In this novel, we meet an assortment of eccentric monomaniacs, from mushroom hunters in search of a legendary truffle, to birders pursuing a possibly-extinct bird, to competitive Duck Stamp artists, to "the World's Foremost Living Statue"...and even a very stubborn spider. Meanwhile, our narrator--a terrible, yet persistent, poet--battles a ruthless land developer who's determined to acquire the poet's humble property, in an escalating battle of wills that spirals out of control when the media gets involved. With these quirky events as a backdrop, we gradually learn of the misfortunes that befell each member of the poet's family in their various misguided quests for glory. We also learn why money makes the world go flat, why talent is a white elephant, and what it means for parents to love their children "to pieces." Some of my influences are Richard Brautigan (especially), Christopher Moore, Kurt Vonnegut, Tom Robbins, and George Saunders, so if you like any of them, I hope you'll enjoy this, too.

*A Wattpad Featured Story* When a young woman snags Lawrence Croxley from the train station, he soon realizes that being late for work is the least of his problems. She plans to use his access to a major news network's cameras in order to warn the public of a massive syndicate, one that has sinister plans for her and the others like her. This shadowy group will do anything to stop her and Lawrence, throwing everyone into a high-stakes game of chess where checkmate means the end of life as we know it. Fortunately, she has a few technological tricks up her sleeve that might help them cheat the game rules and save us all. As the pair works together, something seems to connect them on a level he doesn't understand--not that he minds a connection with such a pretty girl. But as Lawrence becomes further tangled in this global conspiracy, things like a car chase, getting his best friend captured and a corrupt cop all show him just how in over his head he is. In 1984, Christopher Pike published a young adult thriller called SLUMBER PARTY. Neither he nor the publishing community realized that this was the beginning of a revolution in the YA genre. That teenagers had been craving an author who didn't talk down to them. That teenagers were ready for complex and gritty thrillers that didn't avoid the powerful emotions many adolescents felt. SLUMBER PARTY was the first of over fifty bestselling novels that Pike created that were essentially adults novels—with teenage heroes. Now, decades later, Pike has a new thriller arriving on the market this November: STRANGE GIRL. And he has finally come out of seclusion to discuss how to write a great YA novel: How to get started: How to plot a YA novel; How to ruin a YA novel. Blunt advice on what it really takes to get a book published in today's competitive market. For the next three weeks, every day on Wattpad, Christopher Pike will be posting his advice and answering your questions. Wattpad is happy to have him.
