After coming back from her trip to Shanghai, Ty's life is going perfectly. She has a job, she's been accepted into her dream school for a doctoral program, and she's started dating someone again. She's still the same girl from West Baltimore chasing her dreams. She had it all. Ty's life at the moment is wondeful, or so she like to tell herself and her friends. Deep down inside, for some reason, Ty still feels alone and unwanted. Her feeling unwanted has not changed since she left Shanghai and her thoughts often shift to Lei. In a strange twist of fate, Ty and Lei are brought back together again, only to possibly be torn apart.

All Ty ever wanted was to make it in life while having a strong, Black educated man beside her to support her dreams. The only thing Ty wants more than those two things is to travel the world and to experience other cultures. After stacking up funds for over a year, Ty finally has enough money to take a dream vacation to Shanghai, China for her 25th birthday. Her plan is simple, go to Shanghai for 9 days, party her fucking life away, and bring her ass right back home to the streets of West Baltimore. However, things are never that simple, and when all hell breaks loose while her two best friends and herself are on the other side of the world, they find themselves in trouble and unable to make it back home. When all hope is lost, Ty meets a guy named Lei who offers to help her and her friends return to the United States in exchange for a date. It seems like a harmless proposal, so Ty agrees to his offer without knowing the shit she is about to get herself into.

In a wild turn of events, the lovers are pitted against each other in a moment where they need to trust each other the most. Lei is given a chance to save Ty, however at a price that may be too steep to pay. Through the love, lust, lies, ups, and downs of her relationship with Lei, Ty is left to wonder if she if was better off being unwanted, instead of being wanted for these reasons.
