For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, and for these two, their lives have been planned down to a science. For Wylan Olson, being yourself can be very stressful. Since she was young, her emotions have always been backwards. The embodiment of 'tears of joy,' that laughs to keep from crying, not many people understand her struggle. Mostly because she barely understands it herself, but she's making it...barely. All she wants to do is make something out of herself, and she's willing to work for it. Kwame Okari has been raised to be perfect. His parents' strict expectations at son leave no room for friendships, which they regard as frivolous. Their only concern is for him to be Ivy League, and he cannot afford to disappoint. He is a boy on a mission, with a clear objective: be first. And there's only one person standing in his way-Wylan. As the two develop a better understanding of each other, competing agendas complicate their relationship forcing them to decide which is more important: attraction or ambition, satisfaction or success, friendship or fruition, and lead them to wonder if one has to be mitigated for the other.

Before I could walk away completely, he grabbed my arm and pushed me against the wall. My wrists were caught in his grasp as he placed them above my head. I tried my best to avoid eye contact with him, knowing that if I didn't, I'd fall under his spell. My face held a blank stare not trying to give him the satisfaction that he actually had an affect on me. His cool breath spread across my face while his eyes roamed over my body. "Why the fuck do you make it so hard for someone to like you?"I kept my mouth closed irritated that he was actually talking this way to me."How hard is it to show some consideration for others?" "That's rich coming from a nigga who when he first met me, didn't even shake my hand. You're an arrogant, egotistical, asshole, who thinks the only place for a woman is on your penis." "At least I'm not a self centered, power hungry, bitch." "Fuck you."Before I realized what happened, his lips were on mine. The sweet taste of mint gum was being absorbed by my taste buds. Coming down from my high, I pushed him away. Both of us touched our bottom lips looking at each other in confusion.

a tale of how miss mocha's world is turned upside down by a rather particular kind of stranger. right away, it's clear as day he's the one. one syllable leaves his lips and she's transfixed by the molasses in his speech - he isn't from around here, that's for damn sure - and the warm georgia sunshine in his eyes that could melt your icy facade when they meet yours. she has no clue that men as sweet as that have such potential to cause so much damage once things go sour, but she'll learn the hard way that anyone capable of making life glow so yellow can suddenly leave you so blue. (so this is what the blues are about.)

1996 just before the clock struck twelve that's when I officially met Rakim. And we entered the new year together. 1997 was a special year, for both me and Rakim. Everybody knew Rocky, but never bothered to know Rakim. 1997 was a year of heartbreak and hardships. I told my deepest secrets and my biggest fears. So he did the same. 1997 was the year of big mistakes, but I can never make myself regret them. That's only cause I spent 365 days with him. 1997 was the year I gave my heart and my soul to Rakim. And I knew he cherished every moment of it. Still, somewhere in the darkness something came to the light. 1997 was the year I let go of him and entered 1998 with new beginnings and without Rakim.
