Awards: 2nd place in the shadow awards historical fiction {Part of The Grimm Truth series} (Completed) We all know the tale of the Pied Piper, a hero with a flute, who would hypnotize rats with it and make them flee from a town. But, he wasn't a hero, he was a hero for hire. He was a man people would pay to do a job. When the town didn't pay him, he snapped. He decided to sic the rats on everyone in the town, watching his foul pets feast on the dead. Except for the children. He decided to spare the children. It wasn't an act of mercy. Far from it, as a matter of fact. It was so he could be entertained. Some he would watch drown, others he would send to a distant land where they were sure to die, others he locked in his cave. So, you see the Pied Piper wasn't a hero - far from it. But then again, history is told by the victors.
