On a solitary drive across the states in search of refuge from her woes, a girl named Hensley stops in a peculiar small town perched on a plateau above the sea. The endeavor was only meant to be a pause for gas, but as Hensley goes to leave, she quickly finds that the roads off the shelf have vanished, and even worse, so have the towns residents. Now alone and trapped in a foreign place, Hensley quickly sets to looking for an escape, but as she soon finds, that's easier said than done. The town she's found herself in doesn't seem to be the same one she entered, decaying fast and rotted to ruin, and the sea below has drained into a bottomless, all consuming abyss. An abyss that's not empty... Beasts of utter horror are scurrying up the cliffs from the darkness, looking for lost morsels such as Hensley, and while she tries to duck them while looking for her way out, she fears that she won't be able to avoid them for long. Because the more she investigates, the more Hensely realizes she's not the first one on the shelf, and all the evidence points to her predecessors not making it out alive... Hensely only has herself to rely on now, and as time winds on, that statement proves to be darkly literal.

(The Deal was optioned by TNT!) The mysterious Lee Cutter and his Carnival of Wonders hold a secret darker than any of the citizens of 1930's Junction City, Kansas can imagine. When Mr. Cutter shows up to town early one morning promising an end to the dust storms that have decimated the town's crops and stricken many of the children with the brown plague, young Matthew Porter is spellbound. His little brother Luke is deathly ill from breathing the dust-laden air. Plus, it would be amazing to hear the sound of the rain on his tin roof again. But at what cost? In this chilling short story about sacrifice and the cost of happiness, Matthew will come face to face with the terrifying secret Mr. Cutter's Carnival holds and learn the heart-wrenching truth about what it means to make a deal with the Devil. Excerpt: The man leaned down and fetched a matchbook out of the black boot that rested on the bench. There was no dust there, either - not even on the bottom. He stood up and brought one of the matches to the tip of the cigar. I never saw him strike it, but it fired just the same. He held it to the cigar and puffed on it several times until the end looked like the inside of a coal stove. "Lot of 'em 'round here?" he asked again, shaking the match and exhaling the thick smoke into the air above my head. "Yes, sir. All over. They eat what's left of the crops, even the roots. My pa says that's the real plague." "Does he now?" The man looked amused. "He says we won't ne'er grow a crop again until God sees fit. No rain either." He turned his head and scanned the street like he was looking for someone. "You ever see God here in Junction City?" I looked up at him, squinting, but didn't know how to answer. I'd never seen God anywhere. "My name's Lee," he said, holding out his hand. "Lee Cutter. What's yours?"

The house is safe. The hills outside are not. The basement is out of the question. Joel has been trapped in the house for what has felt like an eternity; all hope of escaping lost after the first few years. Without the company of the eight strangers who arrived with him, he would have gone mad long ago. But while living in the decrepit building is taxing, nothing could be worse than the thing downstairs. Everyone is content to just live in the six rooms that they know are safe until Joel learns that there may be something below. Something other than the creature that torments them. The house goes deeper, further down into the darkness. And while travelling through the unknown halls may be dangerous, and the thing downstairs is always following close behind, Joel is determined to find a way out of the nightmare he's found himself in; for his own sake, but more importantly, the sake of the people he loves. [Formerly Featured/Award-Winning Novella/#2 in Horror] There is something eerie about this village -- this hole of silent, maddened people. In 1922 my Papa told me of a faceless entity that lurks amongst us in our isolated slice of Russia. The locals have kept this horror alive for a century, though the only ones who claim to have seen the Folveshch have succumbed to a life of sightless silence. My name is Stefan Alyovich and the people around me are changing. They slip into worsening madness every winter, and I ask myself: how much longer before I'm the only sane one left? ...
