adjacent to Lab 5, Central Prison is the capital's premier penal facility, housing hundreds of inmates convicted of a multitude of crimes. Under the control of the State Military, Central Prison houses court-martialed former soldiers as well as its usual cadre of felons, but is also subject to pressure from Central Command. It has been revealed that several inmates awaiting the formal death penalty for their crimes were, in recent years, stricken from the record and instead handed over for human experimentation in the next-door Lab 5. In the 2003 anime, several prisoners from the prison were transported to a hidden room by the Homunculus Envy in the guise of the deceased Basque Grand to be used for the Philosopher's Stone during the Laboratory 5 incident by tricking Edward into using them as ingredients. Despite the fact that the imprisoned alchemist Solf J. Kimblee had exposed this plot and that Lust used Alphonse as a hostage to force Ed to comply to their demands, thanks to further interference from Scar and Ed's exposure to the Red Water by accident, the plan failed. In the end only Kimblee escaped from the prison during the confusion and joined up with Greed and the Chimeras that broke free from their imprisonment in Laboratory 5 earlier.

the nation's largest literary repository and contains texts and reference materials collected from all over the nation and throughout its long history. The library itself is separated into several Branches, presumably each intended to house a different category of literature. While most of the library is open to members of the public, certain branches are accessible only to State Alchemists and military members of adequate rank. Of these, only the First Branch, a large government records database, has been named in the series. However, the First Branch was burned down in mysterious act of arson by an unknown figure in 1914. Even with all its prestige and restrictions, however, it has been discovered that the National Central Library's cache is not as all-encompassing as popularly believed. Due to strict and surreptitious content censorship by the members of Central Command, all references to topics such as Human Transmutation and Alkahestry have been quietly banned.

Kanama is a small slum on the outskirts of Central City. Edward's party first encounters and battles the Homunculus Pride along with Gluttony in the dense forest outside of the slum. During the battle, Edward knocked out power to the village in order to keep Pride's shadow at bay, causing grief for the residents. This grief turned into danger when Pride knocked a lantern out of a villagers hand during his battle with Heinkel, causing a brush fire which quickly spread to the nearby forest. The fire was likely subdued, due to Edward's party continuing to operate from there until their attack on Central Command.

Central Military Command is the entity at the very top of Amestris' military dictatorship government which dictates absolute law and chief command of all military operations. The group known as Central Command consists of the Führerhimself along with a group of Generals directly under the Führer's control. Housed in the nation's capital, Central City, the headquarters for such a prestigious brain trust lies within a large compound at the very heart of the metropolis. Surrounded by a moat and atop an enclosed, pyramid-like structure is not only the Central Command Headquarters, but King Bradley's personal residence as well. In the confines of this fortress, a group of high-ranking military officers have been part of a rather sinister plan for several decades, secretly plotting the destruction of Amestris in exchange for immortality by way of a gigantic Philosopher's Stone to be made out of each and every one of the citizens who trust them so. During the Promised Day, the Briggs Soldiers and the forces of Colonel Mustang launched an assault on Central Command. When Father ascended, the final battle was fought in the remains of Central's courtyard.
