In a city where chaos runs deep and power speaks louder than justice, Major General Damola Olowe-feared, revered, and known simply as the Commander-rules Lagos's criminal underworld with a soldier's discipline and ruthlessness. His word is law. His presence, a warning. Backed by elite troops and an iron code of honor, Damola is the last line of order in a state slowly tilting into anarchy. But when a high-stakes raid ends in betrayal, an ambush leaves him bloodied and alone, and five of his own men try to assassinate him in transit, everything shifts. He survives by sheer will-and the unexpected help of a 'frightened' stranger. Damola gives him one thing in return: a favor. A single, open-ended promise. Three years later, the stranger returns-not for money, not for power, but with a request that will dismantle everything Damola has built. He wants Damola to protect his quiet, delicate younger sister, Adunni, while he travels abroad. The Commander refuses-until the debt is called in. What begins as a reluctant favor becomes a war of shadows, as Damola finds himself caught between growing feelings for Adunni and suspicions he can't ignore. Because Adunni isn't just innocent. She's a pawn. A spy planted to bring him down. And behind her is a man with blood on his hands-and a plan that could end the Commander's reign for good. But Damola didn't rise to power by playing fair and he was ready to fight until the very end. He took them down before, he could do it again. He would. Obey the Commander-or be destroyed.

Surrayya doesn't do complications. Life is sweet when you keep things simple- bake, paint, watch F1, and avoid emotional entanglements. Feelings? Too messy. Love? Too risky. She'd rather stick to what she can control: her dreams, her business, and her ever-growing collection of car facts no one asks for. Hafiz likes life structured. Numbers make sense. Investments have predictable outcomes. He has always believed that with enough discipline, life can be controlled. But lately, he's starting to realize- some things aren't meant to follow a formula, proving that even the best-laid plans can crash and burn. Their paths weren't supposed to cross. And yet, somehow, they crashed into each other-in the most unexpected place. She's all spontaneity; he's all logic. She runs from feelings; he's learning to confront them. Neither of them is looking for love, but love? It might just be looking for them. Because sometimes, the best things in life happen when you're not paying attention.

He placed his knife on her neck as she squirmed beneath him. Blood trickled down her neck. She waited for death like her servants waited on her at home, but it never came. She opened her eyes and caught his gaze. He was even more handsome up close and his green eyes were seductive. He just held the knife to her neck. Then he stood and threw the knife away. She shifted away from him and he eyed her emotionlessly from where he stood. She shivered as she thought of the brutal way he killed Lillian and Jamie. Before she could say a word, he took her by the wrist and dragged her out of the room. xXx [I posted this story in 2014, that's seven years ago. Asides that, I typed the whole story on my phone. So, go easy on me please. I have decided not to delete or even touch this story or anything as I would like to keep it as a reminder of what I did seven years ago. I went through this book and I feel really proud of myself. Read through and be proud of me too. 💓 adetayo_first. July, 2020]

Halo Watters didn't know anything about the streets. He knew the stories people told in church. The prayer requests whispered after service. The names mentioned when someone asked the congregation to pray for a family that lost a son. But Halo had never stood in a room where guns were part of a conversation. Never watched men settle problems with fear instead of words. His world had always been built around faith, patience, and the belief that people could change if they wanted to. He believed in forgiveness. In grace...In second chances. Princess Midnight didn't know anything about that world. Not the way Halo did. Church to her was something people went to when they wanted to feel better about things they had already decided to do. Faith sounded nice in theory, but in the world she grew up in, survival mattered more than sermons. Kingston Midnight didn't raise her to believe someone else would save her. He raised her to protect herself. To control situations before they got out of hand. To make decisions quickly. To never show hesitation in a room full of men waiting for a sign of weakness. Halo believed people deserved mercy. Princess believed mercy could get you killed.
