"I'm scared." My lip trembled. "I-I'm scared to talk to people, to build relationships because everyone always leaves, Rome. They always do."
He slowly shook his head and brought his lips to my forehead. His words were a confident whisper against my skin. "I'm not going anywhere, love. I'm staying right here." A gentle kiss was placed on my forehead, causing a shiver to pass through my body. I looked at his face and saw a genuine smile that made my heart stutter. He couldn't be real.
My doubts had me untangle my hands from his shirt and they lightly roamed his face. I started at his hairline and brushed my thumbs over his dark eyebrows that were sketched perfectly to accommodate the rest of his sharp features. The tips of my fingers skimmed the bridge of his nose and past the very few faint freckles that dotted it, to the edges of his mouth that had parted open slightly.
"What are you doing?" His voice was a nervous breath of air directed at me. I never thought I would see Rome nervous, and I had a feeling it didn't happen often.
With a small smile and tear-stained cheeks, I gazed into his questioning gray pools and whispered, "I'm just making sure you're real."
Abandonment, that's all Venus knew when it came to people. Everyone left with the few exceptions of people that crashed their way into her life.
Could a certain dark-haired boy nudge his way into a hesitant shy girl's heart?
