"What's wrong?" He asked softly, grabbing Kai's arm and preventing him from running away again. "N-nothing." Kai whispered looking down at his shoes. Nicolas lifted Kai's chin and looked into his black eyes with a soft look. "I know something is wrong. Tell me." He coaxed moving his hand from Kai's chin to cup his cheek instead. "I don't like it when you laugh and smile with Rex" Kai mumbled. "I want you to only smile at me." _____________________________________________ Kai and Nicolas were best friends. They've always been best friends. Everyone around them craved to have a friendship as beautiful as theirs. Nothing could change it. Until something could. Something as simple as feelings.

It's a game we play in his basement after sunday service. And sometimes on Wednesdays too. You only know about it if you know where to look. And who to ask. Us queer boys have to be careful like that, because this is the kind of town you don't walk out of alive unless you're hiding. But the truth is, I wanna marry a boy one day right out in the open. Right here near the ranches and the streams with the blessings of my momma and dad. But those are kids dreams. And if you try that you end up dead. Like that boy. But I. Still. Dream. I can't stop and how cruel can the world be to expect otherwise? To shame me for wanting more? So I play my games quietly. ______________________ Gabriel is an average, teenage boy in the south a little before the 2000's. He goes to school and then works part time at an old feed store. That's it. That's his life, except for the gay part. Stuck in a small town with even smaller minds long before the idea of gay marriage being legalized even existed, he finds ways to vent both his sexual frustration and internalized homophobia in the most unlikely place: the arms of the pastor's eldest son. But is a quick fix really what he's looking for? Or is there more for him, something deeper, across the hall with the pastor's younger son? (*NOTE: Not a love triangle, lol don't worry) _______________________ Author's Note: This was loosely inspired by a few stories I read on a website called Lakeweed At Arrow Head, particularly Beyond the Rain by Grasshopper. It dealt with a gay couple in the south coming to terms with not only themselves but each other. It simultaneously broke my heart with the isolation they faced, but also made me feel their love for each other and even themselves through every word. Every sentence. I hope those emotions are reflected in this, even just a little.

Book 1 HomeLess Book 2 ReckLess Book 3 SenseLess Being homeless isn't the end of the world. At least, that's what Zachary thought when he found himself on the streets after being kicked out at seventeen. It hadn't been his fault. His father had used him as a scapegoat and won his mother over, thinking that her husband was telling the truth about his cheating and that Zachary was the one who was bringing women over, trying to ruin their marriage. He'd argued his side, but once his mother decided on something, her mind would not be changed. That's how he came to live in the alley near the end of 73rd street between the old bakery and a laundromat. It wasn't anything special, but after three years he'd managed to spruce up the place and make it almost-bearable to live in. Over the years he'd made friends with random people he often passed on the streets and did manage to hold down a few random jobs, but like everything else, they came, then went. Now he was left with fifteen dollars and twenty-two cents, a torn blanket, one outfit, and a dream for a better life. He just didn't know that he'd find it somewhere he'd never thought to look... or with someone he never knew he'd want.
