There is no escape, not for me. I have tried so hard to forget but the memories keep coming back. I don't sleep anymore, if I close my eyes my mind floods with their screams. The screams of those I've hurt, because I murdered the ones they love. I can't keep running, I have no where to run. I can't hide, they will find me. There is no way out of the endless shadows. I am a slave to the darkness. And no matter how much I fight, I will never be free.

I wasn't always this way. I wasn't always a monster. I used to have a home, and a family. I was kind, good, filled with life. I never did anything wrong. So why did it happen? Why was everything that I loved taken away from me? Why was I stripped of my light? Why do bad things happen to good people? I have no answers, and I doubt that anyone does. My story is one of loss, betrayal, and pain. My story does not have a happy ending, and after everything I have done, I do not deserve one.

Perhaps the best of tales are the ones that might have been. The ones that delve into the depths of lore and grasp something unexpected, something that should've remained hidden for all time. Perhaps the tales left unexplored are the ones that need to be told the most. "I'm enchanted! I don't think I have read another story quite like this that is this authentically elvish... It is a true treasure on here!" ~Aiwren "I'm enjoying this! Your style is very fitting. Well done!" ~ EpicRedpenn "Wonderfully penned. I cannot express how much I love your work, it's like reading an undiscovered chapter of Tolkien, even. I can't wait for more!" ~Dreamescape07 "Indeed, most tales of Middle Earth do not come from an Elf's eyes. Yes, they do see all, and that is the pity of it. If you look into an elf's eyes, you will see Time itself. Pools of memory, lakes of sorrow and springs of joy. The elves are where sorrow and joy meet. Perhaps that is why they are so intriguing. Five teenagers who've lost everything but each other. A two-thousand-year-old king seeking revenge for a wrong committed centuries ago. A magical amulet. A prophecy from a captive mage. What would you do if you acquired a relic stolen from a king, lost your parents, and were forced to flee your home with two strangers, all in the same day? When Chad finds out he has a chance to end the two-thousand year long war that has torn his homeland apart, you'd think he'd jump at it. Right? Wrong. Wracked with guilt over a death from his childhood and crippled by grief, he stumbles along on a series of adventures with four companions bent on ending Agnir's reign. And he fully intends to assist them in saving the world without the help of his magic. But after discovering the true nature of the Amulet, an ancient relic stolen from an ancient king, it looks like he may not have a choice in the matter. He must either face and defeat his inner demons, or condemn the people of his homeland to endless tyranny. Pursued by Agnir's forces and frequently summoned by a strange old mage in his sleep, Chad finally achieves victory over himself. But can he defeat an enemy who possesses immortality? *** Any pictures I use for character or setting visualization do not belong to me unless I mention it specifically. *WARNING* I do have a scene which has a heavy theme of suicide. The chapter will be marked with this symbol: •|• and a warning at the beginning. I sincerely hope it isn't triggering to anyone, and the way I wrote it, it hopefully won't be, but just in case, there's the warning. :) *** The lovely cover is by the lovely @sarsar14 *** If you are reading this story on any platform other than Wattpad you are very likely to be at risk of a malware attack. ❝I just want to do my part in this war, that's all, and it seems to me that I can do what's best here with all of you. I'll show you I'm not someone who's ready to run once the fighting starts. Because out on the battlefield, I'll be your best ally, and I might end up saving your life. So you better think twice before you tell me that I have no place or no right to be on the front lines.❞ - Karen Stevens Or, when a nurse helping out during World War II ends up getting involved in a larger role trying to avenge a friend and serve her country, and in the present, a certain Super Soldier reminisces on an old friend he's lost yet again.
