this story is called the ghost of a friend. 16 year old Ponyboy got a letter from is best friend 14 year old Johnny Cade who is now in foster care away from his friends and away from Tulsa Oklahoma. and Pony knew how much he missed Johnny, he read the letter and he could see Johnny and see his face and hear his sweet quite voice.

This story is set in the old west. And Sodapop Curtis's older out law Brother Darry Curtis has just rode into town looking for him to get even with him sending him to jail for killing a guard on the Oklahoma line. but no one know that the tall handsome stranger in town was their deputy sheriff Sodapop's brother Darry who was born an out law. but they knew that he was asking about their town deputy. and how he keeps talking about a gun fight at sun up the next day.
