The events in this story occur in an alternate universe in which Chakotay's stint with the Maquis happened much earlier in his life. He is married to Kathryn Janeway, and they have a daughter. In this universe, Voyager did not combine with a crew from a Maquis ship, but instead reached the Delta Quadrant with a small loss of life and most of her crew in tact. In "Delta Wild", Chakotay and Kathryn Janeway's daughter sneaks aboard Voyager before the Badlands mission and becomes stranded in the Delta Quadrant with the rest of the crew.

Meet Lt. Zariel Sindile, temporarily assigned to Voyager for its rescue mission in the Badlands. Though the two have known each other their entire lives, they grew apart while at Starfleet Academy. Now that they have both graduated and work together, Kirk's romantic feelings for Marie have begun to resurface. She is in the process of questioning whether her relationship with her Captain would ever be a possibility when a mysterious alien named Khan is added to the picture. Marie and Kirk must carry out a mission they had never imagined, with help from their newfound friends Uhura, Spock, Chekov, Scotty, and Bones.

When a strange young boy is dumped from a temporal anomaly onto Voyager, what will the crew do to help him when he won't even tell them who he is?

Kirk's present mission is to investigate the disappearance of a Vulcan Science team. However, the mission takes a backseat as Kirk begins to fear an evil presence is stalking him. As Kirk's mental stability becomes worse he finally goes to see Dr. McCoy. However, before the results are back from Kirk's exam the Enterprise is forced into orbit around the planet where the Vulcans vanished. Kirk and the away team beam down, yet there is no sign of life, only a barren planet, which terrifies Kirk. Back on the Enterprise Kirk's brain scans reveal that he is going insane, but before the information reaches the landing party, Kirk vanishes leaving no clues behind.
