"Can you just give me the freaking chess piece?!" I gave up trying to be calm, and snapped at Nate with crossed arms. "Not until you get up there and sing." He smirked, a microphone extended towards me in his outstretched hand. Grumbling to myself, I took a calming breath. I pinched the bridge of my nose and counted to ten. Come on, do it for Spades. "Give me that mic." I muttered, snatching it from his hands. Avery was devastated when her best friend Spades moved. She dated, and tried to move on, but no one could replace him. After her breakup with her recent boyfriend she discovers a chess piece attached with a puzzle piece and a folded note. There is a silver of hope when she recognizes her best friend's writing. Will these pieces lead her to finding her best friend? Throw in a jock who Avery had sparked his interest, and a jeck who reminds her of Spades... (I'm pretty bad at blurbs so don't let this put you off! D:)

Tragedies change people. That being said, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the accident changed Gemma. Anger problems seem like the only issue to her, but her father and evil step-mother see a lot more than that lying underneath. Unable to help her, they go to their last resort; they send her to Safe Haven, a summer camp for troubled teens. Haven is a place where misunderstood teenagers can realize their problems and work through them in a safe environment. At least, that's what Gemma thought. The first things that come are the notes. Each one is written with a specific message on it, targeting the accident that killed her best friend and blaming her. The next are the secrets; everyone has one. But does everyone have one about her? The threads start unraveling as Gemma searches for the person who's hurting her; the person who is trying to drive her insane. But the closer she comes to uncovering the secret, the closer she comes to realizing that not everyone is who they seem. Rose thought she was an un-awkward, high school teenager. Keyword: Thought. She had her own personal problems: homework, hormones, family complications, the brat—the list goes on. But her life takes a complete one-eighty when she participates in a round of truth or dare with her close, differentiating friends. Being dared to sneak into the chemistry lab and taking a photo as proof couldn't possibly change a person's life completely, right? Well, when she wakes up the next morning and atypical incidents start occurring such as objects floating, bursting, crashing, having visions of crimes and she seems to not have the ability to hurt herself, something's up. Rose soon discovers she has superhuman abilities and has to learn about her strengths, weaknesses, talents, and of course, how to keep it a secret. She redefines herself by creating a new identity she soon calls, Thalia. But remember: Every superhero has an arch enemy. . . or ten. Cover by me.
