It was called the Wailing Death because it only affected children. All children who fell ill died. All except one. In a small village, the sole survivor of the plague is left scarred and ostracized. How did she survive? Was it magic, or are the ugly scars left on her face the mark of a curse? Aveline is contented to live on the outskirts of the village she once called home. She has an uneasy alliance with the werewolf pack that share her wooded home. Her only companion is the canine, Crash. But when slavers mark the quiet village as their next harvesting ground, it is Aveline who can save them, or condemn them. Cover credit to Sergio Rv

Eden has never seen a zoo before. In her world, zoos don't exist. The Anthros do. Anthros are 'human zoos' created by the machines that have taken over Earth, pushing humans into being critically endangered. Humans are hunted for their desirable qualities and put behind the 20mm thick glass for other cybernetic organisms to view and study. Behind the walls, though, humans deemed "imperfect" are tortured and subject to nightmarish medical experiments. Eden is a runner-- an individual given the task of going above ground and retrieving materials necessary for the free humans to survive. Together, she and her best friend Linux are experts at their job and have raided countless warehouses. When one botched supply run lands them in the hands of the cybernetics, Eden makes an easy decision: save Linux and sacrifice herself. This leads to her becoming a prisoner and lab rat to the machines, and she will be forced to undergo horrors she never dreamed of. Saving herself will be the hardest thing she's ever done. When your life consists of running from one hiding place to another, dodging being captured, and living in fear of the grinding of machinery, freedom is just a state of mind.

*THE UNEDITED VERSION* Beware of typos, errors, and general mistakes. This is a very, very rough draft. "I live in a place called Compound 4. We are one of ten different compounds placed at strategic locations around the US. It's been thirteen years since the virus overtook humanity, turning about ninety percent of us into zombies. I'm not sure how it started exactly; that's classified information. I do know that in order to save what was left of the human race, the president at the time took a bunch of really smart people and kids and relocated them into new 'protected' cities. My father was one of those really smart people. I was only five at the time, but I knew what was happening." Within the walls of the compound, Jay makes stupid mistakes, mistakes even she doesn't understand, putting everyone inside at risk. All because she can't shoot someone. All because she misses the wind in her hair, the flowers on the hillsides, the sound of crickets at night. All because she's different, the only person untouchable by the Virus. When the mistakes begin to duplicate, and a girl shows up who knows her name, everything begins to change in Compound 4. Highest rank in Science Fiction: #9
