For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, and for these two, their lives have been planned down to a science. For Wylan Olson, being yourself can be very stressful. Since she was young, her emotions have always been backwards. The embodiment of 'tears of joy,' that laughs to keep from crying, not many people understand her struggle. Mostly because she barely understands it herself, but she's making it...barely. All she wants to do is make something out of herself, and she's willing to work for it. Kwame Okari has been raised to be perfect. His parents' strict expectations at son leave no room for friendships, which they regard as frivolous. Their only concern is for him to be Ivy League, and he cannot afford to disappoint. He is a boy on a mission, with a clear objective: be first. And there's only one person standing in his way-Wylan. As the two develop a better understanding of each other, competing agendas complicate their relationship forcing them to decide which is more important: attraction or ambition, satisfaction or success, friendship or fruition, and lead them to wonder if one has to be mitigated for the other.

"So what really happened tonight?" My stomach dropped, why must he do this to me. I shrugged, "I told you, we just were ready to go." He nodded, "mhm, right after I got done dancing with Karin? What a coincidence." He giggled. I rolled my eyes and looked at the tv. He sat up and looked at me. "You're jealous!" I scoffed, "boy please." I said, knowing damn well I was frontin'. He continued to laugh, "awe little Sabrina is jealous!" He teased me and tugged on my arm. "Move Devin!" I yanked away and almost began crying. I thought he'd assume that I liked him and make this easier for me to confess, but instead he's teasing me, and my sensitive ass couldn't take it. He stopped and stared and wondered why I wasn't playing along with his joke. "Damn Sabrina, it was just a dance, you're always gonna be my best friend." "Well I wanna be more than that!" I shouted, and made him jump. I couldn't help it now, here came the tears running like a broken faucet. I stood up and walked to the corner, holding my arms and cringing quietly. Damnit, why did I say it?!! Shit! Fuck. COMPLETED APRIL 2017

"I can't believe you tried to embarrass me like that in front of the most highly respected people in my life!" She snapped. I just stared at her. "I mean, you were being so disrespectful to me, mama, and everyone else that were trying to have a good time. It's like everything I try to do, you just try your hardest to sabotage it. Can't I have the spotlight to myself? Just for a moment?!" She exclaimed. I started laughing, laughing almost to the point where my stomach hurt. "It's not funny! Why are you laughing!" She shouted with anger in her eyes. I pulled myself together after that good laugh. If only she knew why I found it so humorous. "Why do you hate me Elise?!" She demanded an answer with tears streaming down her plump cheeks. "I don't hate you Mahalia." I said calmly and shook my head. "The hell you don't." She responded. "You hate me, you hate mama, that explains why you said some hurtful things to her earlier at dinner. You're just full of hate! You hate your family, your neighbors, the sun, the grass...I don't get you!" There were tears just waiting to fall, but I fought them. I took those built up tears inside of my head and used them to put out them flames of anger I was seconds away from showing. Tonight, I was tired of being angry, my whiskey helped calm me down. My eyes were heavy and strained from staring at this tv for hours non-stop, I had a slight headache, and now I have to hear these words coming out of my sister's mouth. I watched her speak, completely giving her the floor to say whatever it is she felt the need to say. I was tired, but I stood their and heard her out. All rights reserved @Almondee1
