Formerly titled Butterfly ~~~ When former reporter Melody Tsushima was sentenced to twenty months in prison, she hadn't expected to be sent to Versailles. Cooking soups and planting daffodils, after all, was strange. But all par for the course at the so-called "Palace at Versailles," an old mansion equal parts prison and psychiatric ward for incarcerated young adults. And Melody certainly hadn't expected her own special assignment: to write the stories of her fellow patients. A girl who truly knows what it means to be different. A young woman with wounds that run far deeper than skin. A boy whose heart is much too big for his damaged body. A young woman who sees the world as it could be, not as it is. A boy with too many souls living in him. A boy with universes in his mind. All of them are unique, and all of their stories will change Melody. // Note: this story was formerly a completed story in the fanfiction category. This version has been rewritten to be original fiction. Due to the request of readers, the previous story chapters have been unpublished, rather than deleted.

"Invisible and inevitable, like a butterfly that beats its wings in one corner of the globe and with that single action changes the weather halfway across the world." ― Alice Hoffman ~~ Chou Tsushima is an investigative reporter with excellent training, intense curiosity, and a past that conflicts her. A tip about a prototype hospital for the criminally insane leads her to check herself into the prison to learn more about what happens inside its stone walls and speak with the people that live there. When she meets the seven people inside the prison, however, her life and the lives of those boys will never be the same. ~ Original fiction version available for reading, titled "The Burning of the Palace at Versailles". ~ [Open fanfic inspired by the BTS Music Video Storyline. This includes the videos: "I Need U" (Ver. 1, 2, & the Japanese Version), "HYYH On Stage: Prologue", "Run" (Original and Japanese Version), "Young Forever," the Wings short films "Begin", "Lie", "Stigma", "First Love", "Reflection", "Mama," and "Awake". While this is an open fanfic that does not require you to have watched these videos, you might find a few references if you have watched them.] ~ Rated Mature for sensitive themes.

There are three types of them. The savvies are the mentally advanced ones with abilities of telepathy and telekinesis. The runners are the physically impossible ones with the power to lift a truck and teleport with the blink of an eye. The medics are almost unkillable with the ability to heal ten times as fast as a normal human being. The people who created them might have a different name for them, but they call themselves the Extraordinaries. Extras for short. First book in The Experiments Series
