Sixteen-year-old Sage Greene was locked in a maximum-security asylum for the criminally insane after murdering nearly 200 civilians. It isn't her, though - it's the voices. There are two sides to Sage: the normal, self-conscious teenager, and the Voice lurking inside her head, the one that forced her to strike out and kill. Now, both parts of Sage are being sent into space, destined for a new rehabilitation program upon Mars, with a group of the most dangerous teenagers in America. Before they can reach the red planet, however, they are abducted by a strange alien race and taken away from their spaceship and everything they have ever known to compete in a sadistic set of physical and mental tests nicknamed the Trials. And so far, nobody has survived the Trials. * {Highest ranking: #5 in science fiction as of 9/3/17} [Comment threads contain spoilers at random. You have been warned.] WARNING This is a very dark book that only spirals further down. Murder is discussed and there are slightly graphic scenes.

Priya, that's my name, and I'm an inmate at this wretched place. An oasis of fun your people call it. A prison of cages it's known to mine. I'm not sure what else one would call a human zoo run by humans, though, inhumane is a good place to start. But I guess that's why you came into my world, Jax, to tell us what qualifies as a human to the real world, your world. The one outside of these walls caging us in. Well, we welcome you to our home, son of zoo tycoon owner. Please don't forget though as animals we do bite. ----------------------------- If you want, take a listen to the playlist I listen to while I write! Bren Halsey has spent her whole life in an orphanage. She blames her miserable existence on her parents-they abandoned her on the orphanage's doorstep as an infant. Her daily routine consists of online classes, taking the trash out, and annoying the hell out of the staff. Now, at age fourteen, life still hasn't improved. Bren plans to move far away from the dreaded place the second she turns eighteen. Until then, life doesn't seem like it could get any worse. Until, that is, she's kidnapped one night while taking the trash out. Bren is taken to a building in her own town, just blocks from the orphanage. The outside says Hancock Avenue Medical Boarding School-the inside says torture prison. Within the building's brick walls are many other children and teens who have also been kidnapped. Bren is subjected to countless painful experiments and hours of slave labor. According to a certain Professor Charleston, the prison leader, prisoners will remain in the building for thirty days before being taken to an unknown location. Escaping is nearly out of the question, as there are guards everywhere and punishments are severe. Bren knows that she has to get out somehow, because the prisoners who are shipped off at the end of the month are never seen again. When Bren learns the prison's true purpose, her worst fear is confirmed: the whole operation is much, much, bigger than just the Medical School.
