This story will pick up 3 years after the events of the film. Jim White is still teaching at McFarland High School and is also still coach of the McFarland Cougars who now compete interstate while also attending university. Thomas Valles is captain, studies teaching and business management, and is the fastest cross country runner In California. Julie White is now 18, about to graduate high school and is looking for colleges. She has top results and will be able attend wherever she chooses. Julie and Thomas are still going strong and this story starts off during summer break right after graduation.
