Mike Morgan and his friends Sam, a determined boy with a short temper and Justin, the one person his age that has rivalled his intelligence, are suddenly transported to a mysterious dream world upon falling asleep one night. They meet Chris and Grace and are faced with a scary enemy. The Purple Rat, as they call it, chases the group of five relentlessly through a dark and deadly trial. Once they complete the trial they awaken, but something is different, the scratch that The Purple Rat gave Justin hasn't healed, it's still there and bleeding in the real world. Any harm they endure in The Dreamscape, they endure in real life as well, including death. Murderous monsters and other humans with the same ability lurk around every corner. A mysterious world full of mysterious people is waiting to be explained.
