Haar schoolcijfers zijn beroerd, haar moeder zit in een flinke midlifecrisis en zelfs hoogzomer blijft het maar regenen in Nederland. Kortom: haar leven is alles behalve sprookjesachtig. Ze hoeft dan ook niet lang na te denken wanneer haar vader, een warrige wetenschapper, met een interessant voorstel komt. Voor zijn wetenschappelijke onderzoek naar liefde heeft hij hulp nodig. Hoe komt liefde tot stand? Wat zorgt ervoor dat er hele dierentuinen sprongen gaan maken in je buik? Imke wil hem maar wat graag helpen. Verkleed als jongen, wordt ze naar een kostschool in de Belgische Ardennen gestuurd. Aan de hand van geluidsapparatuur, gênante momenten en een hoop lol, probeert ze in een schooljaar zoveel mogelijk informatie te verzamelen. Een voorwaarde is echter wel, dat geheime relaties met schoolgenoten verboden zijn.
