Rey knew Ben Solo needed her. He'd never fully succeeded in killing his past, and those cornerstones of his life dragged behind him, a weight he refused to process, to grieve, and to forgive. That was what he needed her for. Not to stay his hand, or protect people from his destructive form of help, but when the goodness in him cracked open the seal, and his past came flooding in, threatening to drown him. Until then, all she could do was stay beside him, which was shaping up to be more difficult than anything she'd ever done. But at least it was action. After Crait, the Resistance is all but decimated. It will take time before they regain the strength and numbers to be anything more than an annoyance to the First Order. They begin to be able to see one another's surroundings, touch things... and as the bond grows, so does their relationship. Mutual distrust becomes begrudging acceptance. Then a strange sort of friendship. Determined to find her and bring her home to their children, Ben searches the galaxy for her, never imagining that, once he finally finds her, she'd have no idea who he is... "Forgotten" takes place several years after the events of "Conflicted," by KCMarsala. (So, if you haven't read that yet, you should probably start there!) Over the past year, Ben has changed considerably, becoming disillusioned by the First Order and implementing a plan to end the war with the Resistance as its victors. Now, ready to execute the last step of his plan, he has to confront Rey once again. Unfortunately, she has her own opinions about his lofty plan. In this story, it turns out Snoke wasn't lying and he really did create the connections between Kylo Ren and Rey in "The Last Jedi." (Note: This also means there was no Force connection between them on Crait since Snoke was dead by then.) So, there is no Force bond and there's no special link between the two of them. But...that doesn't mean they weren't profoundly affected by the experience. Excerpt: He knew the moment she noticed him, felt it like a stab to his core through the Force. He saw the fierce determination in her eyes and he tried to match it, but was certain he failed. All he could feel was sorrow. The tempo of his steps increased as he covered the ground toward her. He watched as she turned her body toward him, bringing her magnificent dual-bladed, bright white lightsaber to bear, her lips pulling back in a vicious sneer as she sought what she had yet to realize he was here to offer her willingly. Deflecting one last bolt and seeing her raise her weapon with the start of a battle cry intended to lend her extra strength, Ben thumbed his lightsaber off and dropped to his knees at her feet, his head bowed and his eyes closed. Do it, he thought desperately. End me. End my misery.

Told entirely from Rey's point of view, this story directly follows the events of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."rom Unable to control the Force bond that connects them, Ben and Rey attempt to deal with a situation neither wanted to start but which neither wants to end. No sooner do they agree to abandon the galactic war together than the war catches up with them, leading them into new dangers and a path toward the Dark Side...

Driven from the Resistance and her friends by her Force bond with the enemy, Rey strives to live a peaceful life far away from the galactic war that rages on without her. Although Kylo Ren does everything in his power to shield her from harm, he soon learns he cannot do so from afar. But when a threat to her life brings him to her side, his deepest desires and fears are both realized and a foe long thought defeated rises again. This is a concise, focused story with a complete arc designed to be read in only a few sittings. You can think of it as my vision for just the Rey/Ben scenes for the Episode IX film. Excerpt: The look Kylo gave her, permeated with intense longing and regret, both moved and exasperated her. "Oh, cut it out," Rey hissed, annoyed by his tiresome displays of conflicted emotions. "You know what I want." "Yes," she declared. "You've made it abundantly clear. What matters to you is power, order, control. Well, you will never have power, order, or control over me." The same flash of heat pooled deep in his gaze, and Rey resisted the urge to strike him again.

With Kylo Ren's darkness encasing her like a safeguard -a dark swirling mass of power with the density of deep space- Rey's bright gold Force-essence exploded to life with the radiant illumination of solar flares and stars. Luke's face shot back to his groaning nephew. Kylo's Force aura had visibly changed too. He was still enveloped by thick blanketing shadows, but they seemed well under his control now. They ebbed and wove around him, moving with him, rather than against him. Luke blinked in disbelief but It was unmistakable; Within Kylo Ren's dark aura of swirling shadows were sparks and flakes of Rey's golden light and together they spiraled as one thriving solar system of both the light and dark. Rey recovered first and she half dragged herself to Ren. Unsure of what would happen next, Luke stood stead fast in his curiosity as the girl stumbled to her knees before his nephew who was still cradling his head between his forearms, his screams only just dying down to muffled whimpers. She reached out towards the Dark sider, her hand hesitating nervously within the space between them. -Her fingers twitching, her lungs tight, and then, she shakily placed it on his trembling arm. Instantly he stilled under her touch, his body calming in response to her contact. The Force between where skin met skin, visibly glowed. It wasn't just darkness. Nor just light. It was something new. Something born between the two. As if lightning had struck Luke where he stood, enlightenment filled the old Jedi's eyes and the passage he'd forgotten so long ago, came back to him all at once; "First comes the day Then comes the night. After the darkness Shines through the light.
