It was dark, it was dirty and it smelt of bad things happening. It was a place where troublesome teens and disreputable people lurked and loitered. With nothing but a letter she was never allowed to read, that is where she was left. In the shadow of a run down house, on the cold grey steps leading to the ill-lit front door, she would grow up to never have a real family.
