A LitRPG novel by Pavel Kornev Virtual worlds are places of boundless freedom. Anyone can become an elven mage or an invisible rogue, join a clan and go on raids, fight, develop their characters and most importantly, escape from the daily grind. However, a game is only a game if you can quit. This is something I learned the hard way. I just wanted to let off some steam in virtual reality and ended up getting murdered and imprisoned in the body of one of the undead-slow, clumsy and cursed to die at the hand of other players over and over again. The only way out of this awful predicament was to find the legendary Scroll of Rebirth, but the helpless plague-ridden corpse would need to be turned into a real killing machine. If only people knew what it was like to level up a dead rogue...

Tell me, would you be willing to work for nothing? Busting your hump for a famous corporation without time off or weekends eight or more hours every day with no fixed salary, just the vague promise of possible "perks" in the far future? Your answer would probably be a hard "no." But what if this job was playing a video game set in a vibrant and realistic fantasy world? And what if MMORPG's were the only thing you'd ever really been able to do well? And what if, also, you'd be playing side by side with the person closest to you in the whole world and, for them, virtual gaming was the closest they could get to real life? So then, perhaps the elusive incentives, which could cover all your expenses, weren't as hard to earn as you thought at first glance? Would you dare find out?

Millions of them come to Barliona, looking forward to the things they can't get in real life: elves and magic, dragons and princesses, and unforgettable combat. The game has become so popular that players now choose to spend months online without returning home. In Barliona, anything goes: you can assault fellow players, level up, become a mythical hero, a wizard or a legendary thief. The only rule that attempted to regulate the game demanded that no player was allowed to feel actual pain. But there's an exception to every rule. For a certain bunch of players, Barliona has become their personal hell. They are criminals sent to Barliona to serve their time. They aren't in it for the dragons' gold or the abundant loot. All they want is to survive the virtual inferno. They face the ultimate survival quest.
