The thousand-year serpent demon Xuan Lin attempted to transcend his tribulation and become a dragon. The ascension failed and the heavenly lightning blasted him crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
In desperation, he plunged into the black sea. His massive tail capsized a cargo ship.
Xuan Lin didn't die. A wisp of his remaining soul passed into the body of Wu Tingchuan, head of a jade trading house, and took possession of his form.
When he opened his eyes, Xuan Lin was a cripple. Only his right arm still worked.
The Wu family believed he was possessed by evil spirits and sought someone with a strong destiny to marry into the household to "ward off misfortune." And so, Wang Mo was taken in as a concubine.
This little ge'er pitied him, loved him, respected him. He treated him well.
A small courtyard, two people, living their simple days together. Half a year passed in quiet contentment, until fate brought Xuan Lin back to his true form.

After being cast out by the Wu family, Wang Mo's legs were crippled. He took shelter in a small cottage in a distant village.
The village men eyed his house and wanted to marry him. But behind his back, they sneered.
"A ge'er who was thrown out. Secondhand goods. Damaged."
"Two useless legs. He probably won't live more than a few days. Marrying him just to inherit his place would be fine, I suppose."
One day, a handsome man appeared at his door.
He brought rice and flour. And he asked Wang Mo if he would be willing to marry him as his proper wife.
Notes from Author
① The gong is a serpent demon. He has no sense of righteousness or morality.
② The serpent returns to his true form. There is a "wife-chasing crematorium" arc, but not too much.
③ Contains childbirth, but not a lot.
