2016 WATTY AWARD WINNER - HQ LOVE THE TERM SHEET is a fast-paced technothriller about entrepreneurship, startups, encryption, and the delicate balance between national security and individual privacy. Its complex characters explore thought-provoking questions about the role of technology in an ever-changing society. Step into the high-stakes game played by today's technology innovators, who push the envelope and risk it all. Get ready, this thrilling book gives you a taste of what startups are really like. _____________________________________________________ David Alexander, a young programmer in Portland, Oregon, loathed his job. Computer programming had always come naturally, but being an employee never suited him. So he tried entrepreneurship instead. After making a series of embarrassing blunders, David finally hit on a startup idea that stuck: encrypted chat. Sure there were alternatives, but as Edward Snowden has shown us, most of them (willingly or unwillingly) have backdoors for spies and bad guys. A new approach made David's app one of the most secure options out there, which caught the attention of many people, including Shawn Douglas from the Secret Service. Shawn Douglas worked with eight different presidents, preventing twenty assassination attempts, forty-three terrorist plots and two bullets. When he was promoted to a desk job overseeing and organizing travel, he picked up on a cryptic email thread that hinted at a threat to the President's life. In a race to unravel the conspiracy, Shawn and David both have to make some difficult decisions. Will Shawn stop the terrorists in time? Will David be able to navigate his startup out of a crisis and keep his entrepreneurial dream alive? Or will fate deal them both a crushing hand? Read the book to find out.

Chloe is smart. Genius actually. Unfortunately, her genius has always been overlooked. No one cared that she could read 10 years above her age when she was six, or that at the age ten she won her elementary school science fair by creating a fully functional rocket equipped with a homemade camera and candy dispenser, or that she's been sitting in on her fathers college lectures since she was 11. No one cared that when she was 12 she had already taken SAT's ACT's and several AP exams and got a perfect score on each one. No one wanted to be friends with the genius homeschooled kid in high school. No one cared that she was more than just a brain. That she had feelings to. That it hurt when people called her names in the cafeteria so she just ate her PB&J in the bathroom to escape their ridicule. That she didn't like it when people pushed her around in the halls when she was on her way to class. No one bothered to help he up when she fell. She was alone, and eventually, it drove her insane. *edit* Omfg I wrote this when I was like 15 (hence the limited awareness of life after highschool in the summary, and the overplayed teenage angst) it is unfinished and will remain that way. I dont even like thrillers what in the world was I thinking? Godspeed if you've somehow found this in the year of our lord 2023. Don't read this; it's shit. *edit to the edit* OH MY GOD THE PLAYLIST I FORGOT ABOUT THE PLAYLIST JFC WHAT AN EDGELORD

"Oh right, you're agoraphobic?" He asked, understanding. I nodded quickly. "So you've never set foot outside of this penthouse." "No. Not once since I came here." He sighed and walked to me. "You have to go out." He said. I shook my head again. "No." "Yes." "No." "Yes! Sorry lady but I need to get down that elevator." Rachel La Tere is agoraphobic. She had never left her penthouse at the top of the luxury Castle apartments. Why her biological mother had died and what truly happened to her father after she was 'adopted'. And why everybody seems to be searching for her? "If the world can't handle the truth, give them a spectacular lie." Bitch. That's what they called me at my old school. I disagree: I'm just brutally honest, that's all. Some people don't like honesty. Exhibit A: Matthew's family. None of them want to acknowledge that their Golden Boy is gay. Exhibit B: My Mother. I only told her the truth: that she was a crappy parent who never should've gotten knocked up in the first place. But she was so offended that she shipped me off to my fabulously wealthy father and his walking-billboard-for-plastic-surgery of a wife. So I devised a brilliant plan. My new friend Matthew was sick of hiding his sexuality. I was tired of obnoxious rich boys hitting on me. So why not pretend to be dating? He wouldn't have to answer uncomfortable questions anymore, and I'd enter my new school as the girlfriend of the star quarterback. It should be easy, right? Of course, I didn't plan on falling for Matthew's brother.

❝ Wait," I say, backing away. "Let me get this straight- you're Santa Clause?" I stare at the boy no more than a couple years older than me. He had to be kidding. He rolls his eyes, his handsome face illuminated by the lights on the tree. "Well when you put it that way, I suppose." The candy cane i am sucking on falls from my lips, clattering to the floor. "B-But where's the beard, the overflowing fat and the HO HO HO?" He snorts, a charming smile on his lips as he tugs on the end of my Santa hat. "Sweetheart, it's all just the Santa Clause Act.❞ ~*~ p.s. The current cover was made by Isasecret Ranking: short story #9/ Teen Fiction: #56
