Initially, it was known as the Blood Fever. A flu-like virus that had been spreading rapidly through the Western Hemisphere. It didn't take long to realize that a global, catastrophic extinction event was taking place. On May 21st, 2009, an international broadcast hit. The announcement that the virus had found a way to activate the brainstem upon death, resurrecting the hosts from the dead.
Now, two years into the apocalypse, Drue Slater remains alone, with only one rule she has managed to survive by: people are not to be trusted. Trusting people meant caring, and caring got you killed. That is, until she runs into a shadow she can't seem to shake. With severe wit, outrageous plans, and next to no survival skills, Drue wonders how anyone could remain so optimistic in such bleak circumstances.
