Born into slavery as nothing better than a Subhuman, unable to speak, unable to read or write and unallowed to learn such things, she works hard for her master, the Divine Magician. Then one day, as she's trying to continue her hard work, Silent Eden makes a discovery that could change the way she views the entire world. Zanthius has lived on his own since the death of his mother. As an Islander, he knows that the land he lives on is sacred, and that no Mainlanders are to step foot on the island. So when he finds the strange girl in the ruins of the Island, he doesn't know what to do. She doesn't speak the language--She doesn't speak at all! To find out where she comes from and to send her back are Zanthius' duties to his people. But is it worth it?

Quiet rumours have been invading Canada of something strange and powerful. First, the power goes out. The cars wont start. The clocks stop working. Cellphones wont turn on. Then the whispers of monsters begin. A troll under a bridge in Halifax. A massive, white beast in the Northwest Territories, stalking families, leaving nothing but blood behind. And the woman in the pestle in New Brunswick, terrorizing people in the swaths of forest around the Saint John region. Glenn has always been firmly rooted in reality. Often mistaken for a bit of a meathead out of his love of hockey, he has always loved science and fact. So when he begins to hear these rumours, Glenn immediately writes it off as being paranoia and panic. After all, there are no such things as those faerie-tale beasts! But when the power goes out, and the strange paranormal situation hits his small hometown, Glenn finds himself unable to rationalize what's happening. Katina knows what's happening. This is the event that the women in her family have trained and learned for, for centuries--including herself! With the knowledge that her witch mother has been teaching her since she was a toddler, Katina is sure she knows what to do to at least keep them safe, But she's not too sure she's prepared to tell her friend Glenn that his idea of reality has been wrong for a very long time.
