With her memory erased and identity forgotten, Elle awakens in the Glade surrounded by an ever-changing maze. She immediately realises she is different; not only does Elle arrive with Thomas, another Greenie, but she is the only girl among boys who came before her. Her arrival is the catalyst that turns the Gladers' world upside down. As they search for a way out, Elle is haunted by fragmented dreams of a past she can't recall. Flickers of familiarity with Thomas hint at a deeper connection than either of them can remember and together, they unravel the mystery of their lost memories and the true purpose of the Maze.

She woke up in the maze, and ran for it. She lands in the glade knowing nothing. She soon meets everyone, and everyone keeps away from them except one person. Thomas. He falls for her but does she fall for him? But the important question, what will she do to get out of the maze?
