"Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the lords my soul to keep See me safely through the night And wake me with the morning light" ...and though that morning light is but a ghost on the Eastern horizon, it is one onto which we cling. In this dark age of begotten Ringwraiths, rogue orcs, and Sauron's rise, it is a hope that we will live to see another day. But as direction goes, it is not so much a morning light, nor an Eastern one, but that of infinitesimal flames roving across the lands yet funneling in the Northeast. These are the flames of Phoenicians, cause of Sauron's original downfall and back for our final battle. This is a story of a return to light within the very heart of Gondor's son. The tragic death to counter Durin's, only withheld by a tear of heavenly descent. And though his ways are ones of great fault, he is yet to be the most deserving of all humanity...a true light in the darkness. Let us then begin the tale of dwarves and men. 'Elthríel listened with rapt attention as Finrod, laying on his back and staring at the clear sky above him, spoke about the beauty of the Trees of Valinor. He rarely spoke to her now, not that he had ever made a habit to talk with her, but this was the first time she had ever hear him talk about the days in Valinor, now seeming so long ago. She had never heard him speak of those days with anyone. 'Since the days held captive in the dungeons of Morgoth, any memory of the beauty and brightness of the days in Valinor seemed like a distant dream, half-forgotten. But when she heard Finrod speak of them, they seemed at once real and alive; she felt that she only had to stretch forth her hand and touch the leaves of Laurelin.' Fading Light follows, for the most part, the tale of The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, so if you haven't read it yet, I would encourage you to do so. :D Hopefully you like this story! Perhaps the best of tales are the ones that might have been. The ones that delve into the depths of lore and grasp something unexpected, something that should've remained hidden for all time. Perhaps the tales left unexplored are the ones that need to be told the most. "I'm enchanted! I don't think I have read another story quite like this that is this authentically elvish... It is a true treasure on here!" ~Aiwren "I'm enjoying this! Your style is very fitting. Well done!" ~ EpicRedpenn "Wonderfully penned. I cannot express how much I love your work, it's like reading an undiscovered chapter of Tolkien, even. I can't wait for more!" ~Dreamescape07 "Indeed, most tales of Middle Earth do not come from an Elf's eyes. Yes, they do see all, and that is the pity of it. If you look into an elf's eyes, you will see Time itself. Pools of memory, lakes of sorrow and springs of joy. The elves are where sorrow and joy meet. Perhaps that is why they are so intriguing.
