Burkley Manor is a thing of the past when Nicole is discharged from the Institution a year after Rolan relocates, feigning recovery for the likes of her new Doctor. Upon going back to her hometown, she feels a great sense of discomfort as the town whispers of her absence. Now she must find a way to live with her Dad who claims he's changed, face Abriana and, most challenging of all, accept her new neighbors.

After an unexpected suicide attempt, Nicole's father locks her away in a very private and prestigious mental institution, Burkley Manors, and tells everyone she's away at private school...far too concerned with his reputation. Feeling betrayed and abandoned, she finds solace in writing. She's been there for 5 months with no progress as she hasn't spoken a word to anyone. The Doctors have pretty much given up on trying to help her. It is only when a new psychologist, Dr Gaines, comes to the institution that things start to change as he finds himself connected to Nicole- a complete violation of his code- and won't stop until he can heal the girl who refuses to be healed.
