In the Pitt, hesitation can cost a life. Dennis Whittaker doesn't hesitate. Not anymore. After a split-second delay during a pediatric code, his attending, Robby, says two words that won't leave him alone: "You hesitated". And when Dennis instinctively reaches to steady him later that shift, Robby steps back with a quiet, sharp "Don't". Dennis adjusts the only way he knows how - silently. He pulls his hands in. Keeps his distance. Stops reaching first. But in a place where bodies collide, and lives hang in the balance, distance isn't as simple as stepping back. Because sometimes it only takes half a second to save someone. And half a second to lose something you didn't realize you wanted. This is my first ever fic, so don't expect too much. I'm also a first-semester nursing student, so there may be some medical inaccuracies; just bear with me. The writing will probably get better as time goes on and I get into a rhythm. Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch was born into a very religious family. And, despite how many times he points out his religious values changing, he still has a Star of David wrapped around his neck. It was almost a guilty pleasure. Sure, it was hypocritical from a different angle...but he couldn't hate the feeling of comfort washing over him as he prayed. However, after Robby's breakdown in the pedes, a certain someone came to help. It wasn't God, but the new student doctor Dr. Dennis Whitaker. He quoted the Bible so vulnerability, all with an uneasy demeanor. Maybe...Robby wasn't alone anymore.

Whitaker's first day in the ER isn't easy but luckily there's Dr. Robby who makes sure Whitaker isn't giving up yet. They grow closer with the time, slowly realizing what has been building between them. They experience many problematics in the daily ER life but they learn to support each other and find their balance in the other person. While Robby has been struggling for a long time, he finally finds peace and hope in Whitaker, making him his safe person without even realizing it. I'm trying to write it in a way that everyone can understand even if they didn't watch "The Pitt". I'll be picking up on some of the events in the series but I'll also bring a lot of my own ideas into it.
