Dan Howell has made many mistakes in life, the first of which was being born to Aphrodite (or maybe just being born at all, in his uncle's opinion). It's never made much sense that he was the son of the goddess of love, seeing as he didn't even believe in it. Still, maybe there's time for his mind to be changed when he finds himself going on a quest to retrieve his mother's "Cupid's bow" with Phil Lester, son of Ares. The year is 2096. The earth has seen two more world wars since 2016. The last war that destroyed a quarter of Canada and half of Japan, was enough to make the government enforce strict actions. Countries are now split, no communication at all between them. Humans now live in conglomerations of small pods stacked upon each other. Each person has their own space, but they're all confined to being underground. Half of the people living inside the pods have never seen natural sunlight. Birth rates are violently controlled due to the lack of space and pods constantly having to be built. Couples are allowed, but physical contact reaching past anything more than a hug is forbidden. Sex is strictly banned unless it is agreed by contract or an operation is done to assure a baby cannot be created. It's a tough life. It's a boring life. And it's a lonely one too. A life underground simply isn't good enough for some and sooner or later, you have to leave the shadows.

The year is 1808 and Phillip Lester is from a family that control his life. Every decision that's gotten his life this far has been made by his parents. Their next request is that Phil is to marry his lifelong friend, Louise. Forced, Phil packs his bags and gets on a train from London to the Lake District. Here, he meets an annoying, brown-eyed stranger. Warnings: homophobic language, smut, mentions of alcohol and swearing.

"Life isn't temporary anymore and death isn't permanent, the lines so blurred it's best if you just avoid thinking about it." The world has ended. Humanity is on the brink of death. The apocalypse is real, has been for a long time now, and life will never be the same. Phil is afraid, afraid of losing his one tie to this world that despite it all keeps him going with the desire to keep them both alive, with a love he can't admit. Dan is worn down but determined, not willing to give in despite the overwhelming circumstance. He'd sooner die than lose Phil to anything. They look out for each other, separation is out of the question. In a world where everything familiar is dead and gone, just one person standing by your side can be the difference between sanity and chaos, and for the two of them, the other is that person. But how can love survive, when death is looming and one half doesn't even realize it exists? The world is a dangerous place, and even with the help of their not-quite human companion Cat and and group of newfound friends, there are new, unfound struggles in store for the pair and a secret neither of them will see coming.
