Their new home they once believed to be just a scorched, and ruined planet, yet a habitable one, turns out to be something much more. More dangerous, more uncertain... More lethal. -Sequel to Snow- The world isn't what it used to be. Supermarkets, malls, and grocery stores are abandoned and mutilated by the few survivors. Houses are destroyed under feet of snow. Almost everyone is dead. There seems to be no escape from the destruction caused by the storm. The only place people thought was left was the seemingly perfect Equator, down at the bottom of the United States. But those few survivors have banded together to face whatever else the world still has to offer. Even though the world is ruined, they haven't given up. And even though I thought it was impossible to withstand this storm... I know, now, that I was wrong. - Sequel to Watty's Shortlisted novel Snow-

Less than five months ago, lights appeared in the sky. Days later the ships started to arrive. They call themselves the Consortium. They are human, or at least Simian, descending from the same genetic line as humans. They terraformed this planet centuries ago, sent settlers a mere forty thousand years ago. Now they are back, ready to begin the exploration of this galaxy. For Cheyenne Walker, Chief Petty Officer aboard the Cambridge, a USS destroyer, the arrival of the Consortium is just one more obstacle to finishing her final tour of duty and getting home to her kids. The political upheaval forces the US into an uneasy alliance with the Consortium against China, and puts the Cambridge on the edge of a nuclear blast. Cheyenne wakes to find herself aboard the Corelean, a Consortium Medical Evacuation ship. Floating in a medi-tank, she wonders if they really can't repair the wreck of her body, whether these newcomers are friends or foes and most importantly, will she ever make it back to children?

*THE UNEDITED VERSION* Beware of typos, errors, and general mistakes. This is a very, very rough draft. "I live in a place called Compound 4. We are one of ten different compounds placed at strategic locations around the US. It's been thirteen years since the virus overtook humanity, turning about ninety percent of us into zombies. I'm not sure how it started exactly; that's classified information. I do know that in order to save what was left of the human race, the president at the time took a bunch of really smart people and kids and relocated them into new 'protected' cities. My father was one of those really smart people. I was only five at the time, but I knew what was happening." Within the walls of the compound, Jay makes stupid mistakes, mistakes even she doesn't understand, putting everyone inside at risk. All because she can't shoot someone. All because she misses the wind in her hair, the flowers on the hillsides, the sound of crickets at night. All because she's different, the only person untouchable by the Virus. When the mistakes begin to duplicate, and a girl shows up who knows her name, everything begins to change in Compound 4. Highest rank in Science Fiction: #9
