Summary: Tobias is devastated when Tris, the love of his life, dies the day the memory serum is released at the bureau. In his grief, he attempts to take the memory serum in order to wipe away his pain, Tris's best friend stops him. Christina helps him to see that Tris would have hated him erasing her from his mind, she told him "The person you became with her is worth being." A year passes as Tobias develops a close friendship with Christina, she then pushes him to move on from his grief, to live his life and just move forward. They begin a romantic relationship. Tris wakes up in a destroyed, abandoned city with only one memory. And that memory is of a man named Tobias. Desperate for answers, she sets out to find him, though she finds that the crumbling world around her may prove that task to be difficult. Alliances are formed. Choices are made. War breaks out, and Chicago is heavily involved. Tobias must balance leading a city, commanding an army, and getting his wife back. Tris faces many obstacles and hazards along the way as well, but she pushes through, determined to find her way back to him.

"There is a chasm between us, a gaping schism that only seems to widen as hard as we try to close the distance. Someday, our combined efforts to reach each other again will lead us both into the abyss." After an overthrow of the unwanted factionless government, the war in Chicago is over. To maintain stability, the faction leaders decide to return to the faction system. Because of this, the sixteen-year-olds that chose that year are sent back to their former factions for nine months. Tris falls into a state of depression after the war and her impromptu breakup that occurred at the end of it, and returning back to Abnegation--to the same house as her traitor brother--doesn't help. Tobias remains in Dauntless, but while he isn't exactly despondent, he does feel out of place. He doesn't fit in and cannot go on with normal life after everything that happened. Then, Choosing Day arrives. And history definitely does not repeat itself when Tris goes through the initiation process with her old friends and enemies, her ex-boyfriend, and the new sixteen-year-olds, while citizens of Chicago are mysteriously dying. WARNING: This story contains discussion of suicide and self-harm, swearing, and suggestive themes.

Divergent fanfic, set 6 years after Allegiant. Tobias is still learning to cope with his grief, believing that Tris is the only one that could heal him, but all hope is not lost.
