Newt hated social interaction, and he'd never really been the one to say much. Thomas was outspoken and would talk whenever he pleased. Their sarcasm was one of the few things they had in common when they first crossed each other. They never attended the same school, and they'd never have met if it weren't for Newt being at a game he wasn't going to show up at. But they did meet, and it all seemed to have a natural flow of things until the end. An end, however, always needs a beginning.
