He convinced himself Jake hates him for what he did to his house, even if Jake is seemingly just fine with it. Jeremy and Michael must be annoyed by his presence, and why would the girls want to be seen with someone who was back in square one? Jake gets sick of Rich pushing him away, and suddenly, Rich doesn't feel as alone anymore.

When Rich's mom passed away, he started writing letters to her so they would still feel connected. His best friend pulls him out of the grief he feels for his mother, giving him a different kind of nurture and love.
