Desperate to keep her magic hidden, Katerina goes to great lengths to avoid dragons and mages. When she gets cornered by evil mages, her only chance at escape involves freeing a trapped dragon. * * * Katerina's biggest fear is that unscrupulous mages or dragons would discover her magic and use her as a living magical battery. When she stumbles into a group of evil mages trying to magically enslave a dragon, she releases the dragon to act as a distraction, hoping he would attack the mages while she escaped. But magic has rules, and when you free a dragon mage, it creates magedebt that they must repay, lest their magic fade. Forced to travel together, Katerina struggles to hide her magic as she accompanies Rakota and his friends while they hunt down the Shadow Mages. Rakota is one of many dragons who detest humans due to how many have tried to slay him, steal his treasure, or control him with magic. He has no desire for a rider, but when his childhood sweetheart shows up, she won't consider courtship unless he has one. As if evil mages with ancient spells aren't enough, word comes from the coast that the nagas are planning to invade and wipe out the humans. Goals and secrets clash as Katerina strives to keep her magic hidden, yet that very magic might be the key to stopping the war, and becoming Rakota's rider would give him the family he's always dreamed of. But all magic has a price, and to become a rider, she'd have to forfeit her freedom. Copyright November 2022. All Rights Reserved. Readers may not copy or steal this story. Dragons live in fear, hidden away from the world around them in their desparation to survive. Secret dragon havens are spread all over the world as safe places for these dragons to live. But even these havens are becoming unsafe, as the humans after them become more innovative and more dangerous. Eldawin is the first of his kind, a mind-reader dragon. As the only hatchling in his clutch, and with powers that are seen as useless in battle, he quickly becomes one of the outliers in the haven. But he is determined to prove his worth, if only to conquer the pity others feel for him. However, with his powers not growing and his fellow hatchlings far outmatching him, he turns to the one being that can help him. One that opposes everything he has learned and seen. A human. 'Fight or Flight' is a fanfic based on ChristalScherer's book Upon Wings of Change. I recommend reading it first, as there is a spoiler for the end in chapter 18 of 60. Btw, this is my first fanfic, but not my first time writing. Scientists acquired alien tech, and being without a conscious, decided to experiment on humans. Sela was already out on her own at nineteen. Warren was twenty-three and months away from graduating top of his class. Both were taken, and both were turned into dragonettes. Not long after, the Votec wiped humanity off the face of the planet only to be run off themselves by the Kymari. Banded together with a few other dragonetts, Warren and Sela decided to stay away from the Kymari cities judging the monster-infected forest safer. However, as the years progressed, more dangers arose and chances of survival shrunk. They had to move. Nothing ever went as it was supposed to, and the attempt to relocate came at a high cost. Instead of simply trying to find a new home, Sela was left trying to find Warren while he struggled to make his way back to Earth after being taken. Escript: Was it worth it? Tasha could have been lying or even mistaken about Warren, but the image she shared-it was him. Without a doubt it was him. Sela swallowed hard watching the Kymari enter the shuttle; it was right there, her chance to get Warren back was in front of her, but there was a cost, and she wasn't sure she wanted to pay. She could leave and never look back. It would be that easy. All she had to do was turn around and go, but that meant leaving Macy alone with the Kymari. If her fears were true she couldn't leave him. She couldn't bring herself to move. Indecision kept her rooted to the spot, the seeping cold locking her muscles in place. She wouldn't go back into a cage-but Warren. How could she pass on a chance to get him back? She couldn't lead by herself, she needed him. She wanted him back. Whatever it took.

[Complete - under editing] (A fan's side story of Upon Wings of Change) *I thank Crystal Scherer for the wonderful book that inspired this run off story that takes place in the same universe! I dedicate this story as a gift to her and all her readers!* Aspen wasn't the only one to be kidnapped and turned into a dragonet, but she WAS the only one who had a something to hide, outside of their human intelligence. Armed with nothing but the wings on her back and the claws on her feet, Aspen did her best just to survive her new environment. But just as she was starting to get used to her surroundings and her newly acquired skills, the rug is pulled out from underneath her once again. Now with the looming threat of aliens, aliens, and more aliens, Aspen has even more piled onto her already overflowing plate. Sneak peak: It wasn't fair. And knowing that unfairness was just part of life, didn't make me feel any better. Life had dealt us a hand of rotting lemons and all I wanted to do was throw them and make life take them back. But I couldn't. I was stuck with these rotting lemons and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get rid of them. (Quick disclamer: Most characters within this story are my own. The universe is not mine. I might have slipped from cannon an intsy tiny bit. My story in no way rips off Crystal Scherer's original story of Upon Wings of Change. Only builds upon it. Please read the original before reading this side story or else it might not make a whole lot of sense. Also read the original because it's AMAZING.) (Going through editing! Chapters with a single star ☆ have been edited and revised. Chapters with two stars ☆☆ are completely new! Editing will start with the first chapter and end with the last.) Idea started June 16 2018 Started writing June 25th 2018 First chapter posted Nov. 29 2018 First Fanart given Jan. 20 2019 Last part posted March 15 2019
