That student ended up being Castiel, the angel who saved Dean but did not restore his eyesight to normal. When Cas first found Dean, he cured him and became his guardian angel for quite some time and he eventually fell in love with him. One day, Dean finally got the guts to talk to Castiel and suddenly his world was full of colors.
