He can tie his shoes, he can calculate algebraic equations, he even knows how to kiss a girl. On a darker note, he also knows his mother committed suicide unexpectedly, not long after he learned to walk. But maybe he doesn't know everything he thinks he does. Because his mother didn't kill herself, she sacrificed herself. She let herself be taken away by a creature that would haunt even an adult's nightmares, to save the mundane and magical worlds as she knew it, for another sixteen years. He also has no idea that his mother was an Artisan, a user of magic, and a powerful one at that. Now the sixteen years is running out, and Xander has no idea of the storm ahead and the powers inside him. Time is catching up and Xander must learn all the things kept from him before the clock strikes midnight on his seventeenth birthday. Or the world his mother did everything to save, will burn to the ground. And the creature who killed his mother will leave not even ashes in its wake.

"Answer me one thing, Relapse. Please." He gives me a small nod, so I take a deep breath. "Why are you a villian?" I ask. He looks off at the city, the lights becoming fireflys in the darkness. Then he turns back to me staring at me silently, his mouth drawn in a straight line. "Why are you a villain?" I repeat, his blue-gray eyes hold a brewing storm. "Because I have no reason to be a hero." _________________________________________________ My world is far from ordinary. It may sound cliché, but it's true. Normalcy was thrown out the window since our city has living, breathing superheroes. They protect us from the wide range of threats that jeopardize the safety of Crystal City. And yes, they do wear spandex and have stupid catchphrases, but they also do things that the comic books like to avoid. Which seems great, unless you're the very thing they are protecting against. Being the bad guy is cool and all, stealing candy from babies and robbing banks and all that, but it's not all it's cracked up to be either.
