I limp on the highway, my arm wrapped around my stomach as the rain beats on my back. Thunder roars in the sky as I step into a pot hole and my leg gives in. A gasp flies from my mouth as I fall forward, my palm scratching the wet asphalt. My forehead more than lightly taps the asphalt because of my failed attempt to hold my weight with one arm.
I end up on my side, my vision red in my left eye as the blood from my forehead leaks into it. The rain washes the blood away as I angle my head to look up the road, at the car that drives a head of me. "Please let them make it," I pray, "please lord."
A gun shot sounds and the car skids to a stop, turning slightly before flipping... 1... 2... 3.... times. My face crumbles as my tears blend with the rain as I watch as he walks up to the car at the exact same moment that Essence tries to crawl out of her window. He walks to the driver side of the car and I can hear Essence scream, her scream closing my eyes as it ends with a gunshot. The gunshot makes me jump, the sound killing a piece of me along with my sister.
