Rain is part of the ancient race, the Ryxens, who are skilled fighters and healers. When their planet is invaded by the Galra, Rain finds that she, two other Ryxens, and five dragons are the only survivors of the attack. Rain makes the daring decision to leave her friends on the first night to prevent them from being found by the Galra. That night she is captured by the Galra, is given the name NightStar and is used as a weapon for Zarkon's wars. One day after a grueling battle, Rain manages to escape the prison with the help of a rebel spy. She becomes lost in space after her pod runs out of fuel and falls unconscious from lost of oxygen. When Rain wakes, she finds herself in a strange castle surrounded by strangers who claim to be her saviors and the Paladins of Voltron. Rain joins them on the journey to take down the Galra Empire, facing unknown mysteries and fears alongside her newfound family and friends.
