What if Emily and Aaron had been engaged back then before he was with Haley? Emily and Aaron used to be engaged to each other until he met Haley in college and ended up falling for her. It caused Emily and Aaron to break up and call off their wedding. Emily moved away, and Aaron began dating Haley a little after he and Emily broke up. Years later, Aaron and Haley were freshly divorced and he wasn't looking for a new relationship after his marriage broke up because of his job.
