When Maria's (a.k.a. Ria) brother Miguel comes back form Mexico to take over their dead father's popcorn farm, he tells Ria that she has two choices: Marry Julio, a family friend, or get thrown out of their house at the end of the summer. Hating either option, Ria tries to find out where to go, what to do, and how to handle the mysterious farm hand Dante, who might have more secrets than anyone is able to handle.
