Relatively Recent Squibs

This is an excerpt from a story I wrote long ago called The Legend of Bolder. Bolder is the big guy in the iron suit on the left in the cover picture. The guy in the middle singing the song for you is Ander, the Silver Elf. The little guy on the right is Groan the Dwarf. The Legend of Bolder was intended to be a children's story, but I couldn't resist putting this Song in the middle of it, as an "extra." Some newswriter noted the other day that in the 1970's the world went through a period he thought was similar to what we are going through now. Not sure about that, but it reminded me of writing this back then. Thought it might be time to share it again.

This is a collection of poetry inspired by Roald Dahl and Emily Dickinson and Dorothy Parker about life and all the shizzles that come with it. Each piece is told through the lens of a slightly depressed human bean who wants to feel a bit of hope.

Mostly transcribed from a chapbook I made in 1982 and updated in 1991. Original contents were simple rhymes, sonnets, Christmas poems, light verse and others.

Every Heart Has a Different Cry, Some of sorrow and of pain. The sweetness of joy, burdens of love, Turning against the grain. Bring your tears, laughs, and fears, Understanding, empathetic pain. Along this journey with a girl who is saying, She's fine, while she's insane.

62 years ago this week a light plane crashed into an Iowa cornfield killing Buddy Holly, J.P. Richardson, and Richie Valens along with the pilot. All three of the musicians were young men on the verge of stardom. Their demise was memorialized in Don McLean's ballad "Bye Bye Miss American Pie. I wrote a piece for our old writeon site several years back and this is a substantial revision and re-edit of that effort. Jimt

Kenta is certain of three things: 1) he does not fit heteronormative ideals 2) he is ready to find a partner 3) his crush might not like his moves. Johan is uncertain of three things: 1) if he will ever reveal his true self to the world 2) if he will ever feel belong 3) if he will be able to react accordingly if that one guy who has been making advances on him pushes it further. When the two finally cross paths their sophomore year of university, what types of lessons will they learn?
