Wuthering Heights is a wild, passionate story of the intense and almost demonic love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, a foundling adopted by Catherine's father. After Mr Earnshaw's death, Heathcliff is bullied and humiliated by Catherine's brother Hindley and wrongly believing that his love for Catherine is not reciprocated, leaves Wuthering Heights, only to return years later as a wealthy and polished man. He proceeds to exact a terrible revenge for his former miseries. The action of the story is chaotic and unremittingly violent, but the accomplished handling of a complex structure, the evocative descriptions of the lonely moorland setting and the poetic grandeur of vision combine to make this unique novel a masterpiece of English literature.

Emma Woodhouse, aged 20 at the start of the novel, is a young, beautiful, witty, and privileged woman in Regency England. She lives on the fictional estate of Hartfield in Surrey in the village of Highbury with her elderly widowed father, a hypochondriac who is excessively concerned for the health and safety of his loved ones. Emma's friend and only critic is the gentlemanly George Knightley, her neighbour from the adjacent estate of Donwell, and the brother of her elder sister Isabella's husband, John. As the novel opens, Emma has just attended the wedding of Miss Taylor, her best friend and former governess. Having introduced Miss Taylor to her future husband, Mr. Weston, Emma takes credit for their marriage, and decides that she rather likes matchmaking.

With a lump in my throat, I looked down to place the sticker with my number on my shirt. When I looked back up, I took in the scene before me and nervously gulped. The waiting area was filled to the brim. There were literally no seats left, and so I backed into a corner, leaned my back against the wall and slumped down to the ground. I didn't quite know what to do with myself so I began fidgeting and playing with my thumbs. When I looked back up, I noticed someone staring at me, or rather, at the bottom of my shoe. I raised my eyebrow questioningly, and he began walking towards me. --- When Andrea Flynn first auditioned for The X Factor, she insisted on going alone. In any case, that's the way it's always been, just her and her old guitar. She found comfort in being by herself, and alone was her favorite thing to be. Little did she know, auditioning for Britain's top talent television show would mean that she would never be alone again, but maybe, just maybe, it wasn't such a bad thing after all. And when asked who she had to thank for her new life, she replied “her boots,” because they brought her to the audition, and most importantly, they brought her to Liam. Getting through didn't change her life. He did.
