Frightened screams of soldiers, doctors, woman, and even young children cried, and seemed to wail throughout the town hall. Then, there was a thunderous clap that bellowed over the whole town. You couldn't see for miles ahead of you, and breathing surely did not come easily. Most people were horrified by what had happened, no one believing that such an act could ever take place in our "home". I was confused at first, but managed to whip my head around just in time to see the destruction. Not even a third of a mile away from us the Town hall had burst into flames. Ash flew in every single direction as flames danced across the air. The building came tumbling down faster than lightning could strike... I yanked my sister by her arm in a haze, tumbling over my own feet as we ran away from the falling building. The first thing heard were the screeches that came from the building. It was a horrifying sound of metal scraping against metal, as flame infested walls, and concrete scattered for miles along the territory where the Town Hall had once stood. I'd be afraid to say it was a miracle that the impact didn't kill immediately, for the irony of the whole situation was too terrifying. I was in a panic. I had no idea what I was to do next. But I did know this one thing. We had to get the hell out of there. "Katrina, don't stop. We need to keep going!" I stumbled across the words in my chest. There was a dark cloud of ash and debris. It was hurdling at us with such a constant that it seemed as if to great to out run. "Right now Katrina!" I yanked at her arm yet again, for she was too mesmerized by the whole ordeal to think straight.

It was one thing having an extended layover at the airport on a major holiday. It was another thing to have searing-hot coffee spilt all over my white shirt. And maybe it was another thing to get stuck in an elevator with an arrogant college student when the power goes out due to a snowstorm -- but all of that together was more than just a "thing". It was a bad day raised to the fourth power. #15 in Short Story on August 27th, 2017 [ Featured Book in Wattpad's "Home for the Holidays" Reading List, December 2017 ] ❤️ Completed February 23, 2020 ❤️

* A Wattpad Featured Story* Thought bubbles escape like champagne-scented daydreams if not caught firmly but gently between loving fingers. A simple challenge for an aspiring poet and avid wisher upon stars: make the ephemeral something of tangible substance. Some keep diaries and hide them from the world. Others recount the journey in poetic form, broken and tormented for all to see and to judge. Each day, a new poem is added. Are they mere trinkets, or an assault upon the last bastions of fear? Dear Reader, If you are looking for a story about cheerful events, and believe that the book title is a misnomer, and this is the very book you are looking for, put this book down, go back to the library, and do one of two things: A, take the biggest dictionary you can find and slam your head repeatedly with it until you have realized you can't comprehend book titles, or B, go search the library for a cheerful book. Truth be told, this story is anything but cheerful, unless you are some deranged criminal who finds murder, kidnapping, harpoon guns, and lots of crying to be cheerful. It is my unfortunate duty to take over the study of the Baudelaire orphans from my Uncle Lemony, and begin researching and writing the next miserable chapter of their lives. Unless you do not want a good night's sleep for the next month, you should probably put this book down and back slowly away from it. With all due respect, -Allison Snicket
