They say a picture can tell a thousand words...but what if it's sending you a message from the dead? Aspiring horror writer Gwen Coleman and her workaholic husband, Noah, have finally found their dream home and quickly move in with their young daughter Harmony and infant son, Caleb. What begins as an unexplained shadow in the background of their daughter's photograph, soon turns into an imaginary friend named Maria. It doesn't take long before Gwen notices a change in her daughter's personality. When Gwen begins receiving eerie text messages and videos from an unknown sender, she worries Maria may be more than a figment of her daughter's imagination. When Molly Heyworth comes across an eerie video on the internet, she believes it to be a hoax. It’s an early instalment to a video blog detailing the Garrison family’s home renovations. On her computer, Molly watches the couple tearing down a wall to reveal a room, where no room should exist. But what unnerves her is the strange altar the Garrisons find inside, where strange symbols on the walls and remnants of blood hint at Satanic rituals. As the weeks pass, Molly grows increasingly preoccupied by the family and their tragedies, especially with the two young boys, who are particularly plagued by the forces within the house. When the youngest goes inexplicably missing from inside the house, Molly’s interest turns to obsession. The more she unravels, the more it becomes clear that the horror has already devastated the Garrisons’ world, but for Molly the horror has only just begun.

Anything having to do with the paranormal seems to be all the rage today. TV shows like Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures get relatively high ratings. Movies like the ever-popular Paranormal Activity series are regular hits at the all-important box office. Both amateur and "professional" ghost hunters are popping up all over the country. What used to be regarded as outside the norm, even kooky, is now being regarded as more and more mainstream, even-dare I say it-normal. Of course, there are still the naysayers who maintain that ghosts aren't real and that all the "evidence" of ghosts and/or the supernatural are "faked" in some way. Granted, there have been instances of paranormal "evidence" being "faked" and whatnot. However, I myself believe there is enough strong "evidence" to support the existence of the so-called paranormal as I myself have had, shall we say, experiences with the paranormal. There again, I have little doubt that there will be those naysayers who will say that I'm putting on airs and, even worse, that I'm out of my ever-loving mind. But, there again, these naysayers have never been in my shoes nor have their "witnessed" what I have, now have they? But I can't really be too harsh on said naysayers since I was once one myself until I started having my own "experiences" with the paranormal.
